Many breeders have noticed a special opportunity in breeding designer dogs. Designer dogs are dogs that are a combination of two pure bred dogs. The labradoodle and the cockapoo are two famous examples, where a poodle is crossed with a Labrador and a cocker spaniel respectively.

Obtaining suitable purebred Borzoi dogs from her Russian relatives, Queen “Vic” crossed these with her beloved Scottish Collies to produce this well-known breed.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is another designer dog. This breed was quite popular among kings and queens in the middle ages. It then dropped in popularity and was revived to its original status in the 1920′s. It is a lap dog and an amazingly loyal friend.

But back then just like today, the key to breeding depends largely on the combination of temperament and physical well-being, to give an affectionate and healthy dog that we all want to own.
