Hold Your Dragons
No CommentsDogs and cats seem to be the standard pet in most homes. They are furry and many of them are friendly. There is nothing wrong with that but reptiles can make excellent pets as well. Just get on youtube and watch some videos of bearded dragons. They are awesome animals.
I grew up with dogs and I made many great memories with him. He was probably the best dog in the world but I still spent a great deal of my time catching reptiles and amphibians and keep them as pets. They were much easier to care for than my dog was and they made a much smaller mess.
I think they even make better pets in general. Most of them don’t bite at all. I am not about dangerous reptiles. I have no interest in having a full grown croc living in my back yard but a leopard gecko in a tank…yeah, that seems pretty cool to me. Would you rather be bit by a leopard gecko or a domestic cat? I promise you the cat bite hurts more.
A bearded dragon, tortoise, gecko or euromastyx can by just as cute as a dog or cat but make less mess. Some folks will never be comfortable with a tiny prehistoric looking creature in their home. If you have kids and they seem interested in reptiles it wouldn’t hurt you to look into it. You be surprised. My wife fell in love with our euromastyx.
They are hassle free to care for in most cases. Children don’t usually take the time to learn more about their regular pet but with reptiles and amphibians they seem to be fascinated by all the information available.
If you are considering a pet for a child I would encourage to add reptiles to your list. They can make for great memories and your child will learn a lot…with your help of course. What did you expect… you are the parent.
The author has a huge collection of Reptiles all of which are much more attractive than the average American pet.
